Quick rotary driver for a dome
In November 2009 we introduced ia brand new type of rotary drive for ScopeDome 3M domes. Unlike
the previous version which was based on frictional gear, the new drive employs a cog-rim
engaging with a polyamide cogwheel. New drives will be installed as standard in all domes, replacing the old
version.
The most important advantages of the new drive:
- doubled rotation speed
- silent
- improved durability and reliability of operation
- soft start
- simpler drive instalment
The use of the cogwheel gear doubles rotation speed. In addition, by applying the variable frequency drive- control of
the rotary motor has been improved. On one hand the soft start system enables high telescope position tracking accuracy
and on the other hand thanks to the doubling of the rotary speed - the dome executes long movements
in half the time. Full revolution of a dome lasts less then 2 minutes.
Soft start introduces minimal gear wearing.
